Sunday, August 10th, 1997: Mathews Finalizes Extension with Toronto
Robby Mathews and Toronto have come to an agreement keeping the catcher in a Dogs uniform for another 4 years.

The deal is worth $39,840,000 and a formal press conference has been scheduled for tomorrow.

This year Mathews has hit at a .358 clip with 59 RBIs, 9 home runs and 74 runs scored.
Sunday, August 10th, 1997: Reed and Toronto Come to Terms
Reports began circulating several days ago that Greg Reed would re-sign with the Dogs, but didn't materialize until today when the club officially confirmed SION's reports.

Details were sketchy, though Toronto did say Reed would be with the club 4 years beyond his current deal.

Reed has nailed down 2 saves for the year. He has also totaled 56 strikeouts and 26 walks in 54 innings while registering a 3.33 ERA and a 4-2 won-lost record.
Tuesday, August 5th, 1997: Walker Mows Down Kansas City in No-Hitter
It was a terrific day for King Walker of the Toronto Dogs at Ballpark of Toronto. He stood out with a fantastic 4-0 no-hitter against the Kansas City Brahmas.

"I knew I had a No-No going in about the sixth inning, when I noticed no one was talking to me anymore," he said, referring to the time honored superstition of teammates avoiding the pitcher so they won't jinx the no-hitter. "Don't let people fool you. Everybody on the field and in the ballpark knows what's happening. They just pretend they don't."

For the game Walker totaled 2 walks and 4 strikeouts in his record-setting shutout.

The Toronto pitching coach marveled at his performance, "His mechanics were perfect and I don't think he threw one bad pitch in the whole game. He was that good."

In 22 starts this season, Walker has picked up 9 wins while suffering 6 losses. He has pitched 124.2 innings, allowed 105 hits, struck out 107 and posted a 3.68 ERA.
