| Breaking News |  | Sunday, November 10th, 1996: Gonzáles Wins HL 1996 Outstanding Hitter Award Víctor Gonzáles, the very talented Vancouver left fielder, certainly made his name known among Hoboken League hurlers this season. He hammered them for 204 hits, 56 doubles, 7 triples, 42 home runs, 128 RBIs and scored 130 times. That kind of hitting earned him the Hoboken League Outstanding Hitter Award for 1996.

The 1996 Hoboken League batting race was won by Víctor Gonzáles.
The Vancouver left fielder topped the batting chart with a .351 average. For the season, he cranked out 204 hits, 42 home runs, scored 130 times and batted in 128. |  | Wednesday, September 25th, 1996: Super Swinger! Greene Slams 5 Hits! Who needs batting practice? Eugene Greene of Vancouver apparently doesn't as he peppered Reno with a 5-hit outburst in today's game. He got the hits, but lost the game. The Avalanche pulled out a 3-2 win.
He told the press after the game, "And I didn't even take BP today. I think I have been taking too many swings before game and decided to take a day off. Wow, this was really something... a 5 for 6 day... will my name be in the record books now?"
One of his teammates hollered out, "No, only if your team wins the game!"
E. Greene singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, singled in the 8th, singled in the 10th, walked in the 12th, walked in the 14th and singled in the 16th.
In his stats this season, Greene has posted a batting average of .380 with 52 hits in 137 at-bats, no home runs and 12 RBIs.
