Saturday, August 9th, 1997: Griffith Bangs Out 5 Base Hits
Andrew Griffith was on quite a roll today as he knocked the ball all over the park, collecting 5 hits and leading the Hillbillies to a 10-4 victory over the Jeffersonville Jammers.

After the first three hits, all eyes in the ballpark were drawn to him each time he stepped into the batter's box. Even a few of the opposing fans were pulling for him, knowing they were watching a little baseball-hitting history unfold.

In the clubhouse, crowded by reporters, the Higginsville center fielder said, "I never realized that batting a little ball around could cause so much commotion." When asked what the secret of hitting so well is, he smiled and replied, "The key to hitting for a high average is to relax, concentrate and hit the ball where they ain't."

Nobody was at home today as Griffith finished the day with 5 hits in 5 at-bats and a line in the record book.

A. Griffith singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 5th and hit a solo-shot off E. McGinnity in the 7th.

Griffith is currently batting .323 with 3 home runs and 22 RBIs.

Friday, August 1st, 1997: Weber Brings Home CLA Batter of Month Honor
When Brooks Weber stepped up to the plate in July, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Cooperstown League Batter of the Month award.

The young Higginsville first baseman posted a .396 batting average with 4 home runs, 17 RBIs and scored 19 runs. Weber also worked pitchers for 13 walks to post a .465 on-base percentage.

Weber has collected 117 hits for the Hillbillies this year, 13 of them home runs. He has also netted 57 RBIs and scored 54 runs while batting .287.

Monday, July 28th, 1997: Big Day with Bat, Strong 5-5
On top of the Tuxtla Gutierrez Conejos hit parade today was Tim Strong. He went to the plate 5 times and marched away with 5 hits, sparking the Traviesos to victory 8-4 over the Higginsville Hillbillies. He certainly had their number at the plate in this record-making 5-5 performance.

The sweet swinging center fielder told reporters, "Each time I went to the plate, I was thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere. When I focus on that, I usually have quality at-bats."

The skipper of the Hillbillies wailed to the press, "Too much plate. Not the way we planned it. Any hitter in the league will rip you when you do that."

T. Strong singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and singled in the 8th.

Strong on the season is batting .257 with 1 home run. His totals include 21 RBIs and 16 runs scored. He has played in 45 games.
