To the press after the ballgame he modestly said, "Guys, it's just one game in a long season. I hit it hard and found some holes today. 5 hits in 6 tries. But my hits are not the big thing in the game. The victory is the important thing. That's the story."
At the end of the game Irwin had collected 5 hits in 6 at-bats and a small mention in the record book. He was happy. He had a big day with the bat. And the Aardvarks had won.
The beat writers were happy, too. They had their big story -- they could write about his big day with the bat.
M. Irwin singled in the 1st, doubled in the 4th, flied out in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 8th and hit a two-run single in the 9th.
To date this season Irwin is hitting .270 with no home runs. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 36-45, .444 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 18.0 GB | | Record at home | 18-24, .429 PCT | | Record on the road | 18-21, .462 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 6-7, .462 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 11-16, .407 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 9-7, .562 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 27-38, .415 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in April | 13-15, .464 PCT | | Record in May | 15-14, .517 PCT | | Record in June | 8-16, .333 PCT |
