| Breaking News | | Monday, June 15th, 1998: Ridin' High: Camp Hits for Cycle Victoria's Dwayne Camp accomplished what few others have been able to do -- he hit for the cycle. In baseball, a player hits for the cycle when he hits a single, a double, a triple and a home run in the same game, though not necessarily in that order. Collecting the hits in that order is known as a "natural cycle."
For the day he finished 4-4 with 4 runs batted in and 3 runs scored and helped his Monarchs knock off the Union Bridge Owls 7-0 at Choppers Stadium. In the postgame press conference he said, "I didn't even know I had hit for the cycle until after the game."
D. Camp walked in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, hit a two-run single in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off E. Jones in the 7th and tripled in the 9th.
In his stats this season, Camp has posted a batting average of .208 with 53 hits in 255 at-bats, 4 home runs and 32 RBIs. He has also scored 37 runs, walked 35 times and compiled a .319 OBP. | | Monday, June 15th, 1998: Super Week for Union Bridge's Romero! His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing Roy Romero was rewarded with the Cooperstown League Player of the Week honors.
The scrappy Union Bridge Owls right fielder hit .483 while collecting 14 hits in 29 at-bats, no home runs and 3 RBIs.
Currently Romero is hitting .331 and has collected 1 home run, 25 RBIs and scored 28 times, while playing in 64 games. | | Thursday, June 11th, 1998: Carpenter Hurls Aardvarks to Shutout Victory Bill Carpenter of the Ann Arbor Aardvarks was masterful today, pitching a 5-hit 3-0 shutout against the Union Bridge Owls and giving his bullpen a rest by going the distance.
According to his manager, "He had command of every ball and every pitch... great location, too." Carpenter had 3 strikeouts and issued 2 walks in an impressive outing.
This year Carpenter has a 4-6 mark in 15 starts with a 4.05 ERA. He has given up 95 hits in 97.2 innings, struck out 27 and issued 34 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .249 batting average against him. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 33-48, .407 PCT | | Position in Division | 5th, 21.0 GB | | Record at home | 17-22, .436 PCT | | Record on the road | 16-26, .381 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 0-4, .000 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 12-10, .545 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 3-9, .250 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 30-39, .435 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 2-8, .200 PCT | | Record in April | 16-12, .571 PCT | | Record in May | 11-18, .379 PCT | | Record in June | 6-18, .250 PCT |
