| Breaking News | | Tuesday, June 9th, 1998: Bad Boy Brawlers Suspended 5 Games The league commissioner announced that two players had been suspended for inappropriate conduct. He told BNN, "What I'm trying to do with these penalties is say, we can't stop you from doing these things, but if you do them, you have to understand you will pay the consequences."
Baseball can be an intense game and on-field confrontations happen. However, the league disciplinary policy is to punish, sometimes severely, those who decide to settle things with their fists.
When Pablo Montés of the Tidewater Tides and Evan Melton of the Sherbrooke Setters got into a scuffle during a game, both players knew that a suspension would be forthcoming.
Sure enough, today it was announced that both players will each receive a 5-game suspension for their actions in a recent game at Field of the Convoy.
This season Montés is batting .346 with 5 RBIs, 4 runs scored and no home runs.
In 1998 Melton has logged 3 wins and 2 losses and struck out 28 batters in 59.1 innings while compiling a 2.12 ERA. | | Friday, May 8th, 1998: McGlade Hurls Setters to Shutout Victory Sherbrooke's Robert McGlade dazzled the Cedars Ballpark crowd with a fine display of pitching. From the start, McGlade dominated the Tidewater lineup en route to a sparkling 4-0 shutout. He finished with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk.
| | Saturday, April 18th, 1998: Martin 5-5 for Setters Kyle Martin really sizzled at the plate in today's 13-5 win over Wolves. The Sherbrooke catcher blistered Henderson for 5 hits in 5 at-bats.
"Martin was too tough to get out today," the Wolves skipper said in the postgame interview. "No matter what we threw him, he hit it. And he hit some good pitches, too."
K. Martin singled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 7th and singled in the 8th.
In his stats this season, Martin has posted a batting average of .362 with 21 hits in 58 at-bats, no home runs and 9 RBIs. He has also scored 13 runs, walked 5 times and compiled a .424 OBP. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | P Andrew Edwards | damaged ulnar collateral ligament | 2 days | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 48-33, .593 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 24-18, .571 PCT | | Record on the road | 24-15, .615 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 0-4, .000 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 7-8, .467 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 15-4, .789 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 33-29, .532 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in April | 19-9, .679 PCT | | Record in May | 14-15, .483 PCT | | Record in June | 15-9, .625 PCT |
