| Breaking News |  | Sunday, June 28th, 1998: Torres Belts Bunch of Base Hits
"It was almost like batting practice. I saw the ball very well and could just about hit it anywhere I wanted." That's what South Bend shortstop Ángel Torres said to BNN reporters after his fantastic 5-5 day against the Cuernavaca Altepetl at Wranglers Ballpark. "I got some good counts and used the whole field."
The Bad Boys had a good day, too, and won the ballgame 12-4.
Á. Torres doubled in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a three-run home run off M. Mills in the 7th, was hit by a pitch in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
Thus far in 1998 Torres is hitting .325 with 2 home runs, 28 RBIs, 30 runs scored and has compiled a .385 OBP. |
 | Tuesday, June 9th, 1998: Weaver Gives Cuernavaca Goose Eggs
Edmonton was pleased to see so many goose eggs up on the scoreboard today as Jerry Weaver blanked Cuernavaca 7-0. He stopped them on 3 hits with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts.
His skipper said, "Once he gets in a groove, he can be dynamite. He was on top of his game in this one."
Weaver has made 14 starts so far this year and put up a 5-5 won-lost record with a 4.94 ERA. In 85.2 innings he has allowed 87 hits, walked 29 and struck out 51.

 | Monday, June 8th, 1998: Star of the Week Awarded in HLAA
At the age of 30, Manuel Muñíz might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Cuernavaca right fielder put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days collecting the Hoboken League Player of the Week Award.
He racked up 8 hits in 14 at-bats, no home runs and 3 RBIs last week in 4 games.
Thus far in 1998 Muñíz has hit .283 with 5 home runs, 39 RBIs and scored 46 runs.
