| Breaking News | | Tuesday, August 5th, 1997: 5-6 Day for Hoffman Today the Purple Riders downed the Bad Boys 18-7 as Steve Hoffman sprayed hits all over Ballpark of Madison in a 5-hit explosion, finishing up with 5 hits in 6 at-bats.
The Martins Ferry shortstop said to SION reporters in the postgame interview, "It makes it easier if you get a good pitch. The odds are in your favor then, not the pitcher's. I got a bunch of very pretty pitches to hit today, and I didn't miss any of them."
S. Hoffman singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, grounded out in the 6th, doubled in the 7th and singled in the 8th.
Hitting .342 to date, Hoffman has no home runs and 7 RBIs. He has played in 18 games. | | Monday, June 30th, 1997: Week's Premier Player - Martins Ferry's Robbins It was an exceptional week for Eric Robbins of the Martins Ferry Purple Riders.
First he beats the devil out of the ball, hitting .406 and you would expect, he is voted the Player of the Week in the Hoboken League. Last week Robbins went 13-32, notched 2 home runs and 10 RBIs and scored 5 runs. All in all, a very good week for him.
So far in 1997, Robbins is batting .314 with 4 home runs and 36 RBIs. | | Saturday, June 21st, 1997: Lynch Cracks 5 Hits It was a good day for the Snappers at Current Ballpark as they clipped the Martins Ferry Purple Riders 15-2. It was tremendous day for Manny Lynch, who went on quite a hitting spree with a 5 for 6 barrage.
The Stuart third baseman told reporters after his big 5-hit performance, "I don't have any buzz words. I'm 'not dialed in' or 'in a zone,' as they say. As far as the hitting goes, I try to keep it simple. I try not to look into it too much. Basically the pitcher throws the ball, I try to pick up the spin, then in a split-second decide to try to hit it. Today I picked up the spin very well."
M. Lynch singled in the 2nd, struck out in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off W. Wills in the 9th.
In 1997 Lynch is currently batting .338 with 7 home runs and 50 RBIs. In 66 games he has reached base at a .367 rate and scored 37 runs to date. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 53-67, .442 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 14.0 GB | | Record at home | 28-32, .467 PCT | | Record on the road | 25-35, .417 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 6-7, .462 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 17-18, .486 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 14-18, .438 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 39-49, .443 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 2-8, .200 PCT | | Record in April | 13-15, .464 PCT | | Record in May | 12-17, .414 PCT | | Record in June | 12-13, .480 PCT | | Record in July | 14-15, .483 PCT | | Record in August | 2-7, .222 PCT |
