Friday, June 26th, 1998: Senators Headington Tames Puebla
Chris Headington of the Carson City Senators was in command from start to finish in his 3-0 shutout win over the Puebla Padres. He struck out 12, walked 0 and allowed 1 hit.

"I felt strong the entire game," Headington said. "I felt like I had my good stuff. It was just one of those games when everything was working."

Thus far in 1998, Headington has compiled a 11-3 record, made no relief appearances with no saves, hurling 123.1 innings and striking out 111. He has held the opposition to a .208 batting average with a 2.48 ERA.
Wednesday, June 3rd, 1998: 5-Hit Blitz by Carson
All game long Athens's Travis Carson was rattling the walls at Valkries Ballpark and banging out base hits against the Carson City Senators and when the dust finally settled on the diamond, he had a career day, a 5-hit day, but no victory. The Senators defeated the Giants 12-10 to take a little of the glitter of the occasion away.

Speaking with reporters after his standout performance, the 25-year-old second baseman lamented, "To get 5 hits and win a ballgame, that would have been a very special day. But we didn't win today. It's not easy to be happy when you lose. Only losers do that."

In all, Carson collected 5 hits in 6 at-bats and a spot in the record book.

T. Carson singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off J. Stewart in the 9th.

Presently Carson is batting .331 with 85 hits and 2 home runs. He has knocked in 27 runs and scored 38 times.
Monday, June 1st, 1998: Senators Hurler Named CLAAA's #1 Starter
In May, Iván Menéndez tore through the Cooperstown League like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 21 years old.

The young Carson City starter posted a 6-0 mark and an ERA of 0.91 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 49.1 innings he collected 51 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .145 average.

In 1998, Menéndez has chalked up 7 wins and 2 losses in 11 starts with 83 strikeouts in 82 innings and a 2.20 ERA.
