Dustin Gibson really sizzled at the plate today. The Memphis first baseman blistered the Las Vegas 51's for 5 hits in 6 at-bats in his club's 13-8 defeat.
"Gibson was too tough to get out today," the 51's skipper said in his postgame interview. "No matter what we threw him, he hit it. And he hit some good pitches, too. But hey, I don't mind if every game somebody gets 5 hits off us, as long as we win. That's the bottom line. We ain't playin' for stats."
D. Gibson singled in the 1st, walked in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 7th, doubled in the 8th, doubled in the 10th and flied out in the 12th.
In 1998 Gibson is batting .279 with 2 home runs and 23 RBIs.

There was double misery today for the Giants Jorge Chacón as he saw his 20-game hitting streak end and his team lose 4-1 to Las Vegas at Valkries Ballpark. The 28-year-old center fielder was held hitless in 2 at-bats by the 51's.
This year Chacón is batting .383 with 41 hits, 6 home runs, 22 RBIs, 17 walks, .472 OBP and has scored 18 runs.

Today Jorge Chacón went 2-for-4 in the Athens Giants 8-1 victory over the Las Vegas 51's. This extended his hitting streak to 20 games. Chacón declined to comment for the media immediately after the game.
J. Chacón flied out in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, singled in the 5th and singled in the 7th.
Chacón is presently hitting at a .390 pace with 6 home runs, 22 RBIs and has scored 18 times.
