PCBL Triple A News Article | | | Friday, May 16th, 1997: López in Command, No-Hits Firebirds No hitters are rare. But the fans at Ballpark of Lincoln received a special gift as Héctor López of the Flock tossed a no-hitter against the Calgary Firebirds. He was masterful as he struck out 9 and walked 4 in a 6-0 Houston victory. In all López faced only 29 batters.
López did not appear to have his best stuff in the early innings, but soon got into a groove and made quick work of the Firebirds. He was helped by several defensive gems along the way.
The Calgary manager said to the press after the no-hitter, "We had our chances in the first few innings, when he was hittable, but he shut us down totally in the last 4-5 innings."
"I had late movement that seemed to cause them a lot of trouble, especially from the fifth inning on," López said to reporters.
This year López has 4 wins and 2 losses and a 2.47 ERA. | |
