Tuesday, May 6th, 1997: Padilla Shuts Out Firebirds
Luis Padilla of the Bloomington Bandits was on top of his game today. He tantalized the Calgary Firebirds with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest and came away with a 5-0 shutout.

In the postgame comments, the Calgary skipper said, "He had the changeup working. You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Bloomington hurler had 2 strikeouts, gave up 3 walks and surrendered 5 hits in his complete game effort.

Padilla told reporters after the game, "To be successful in this league, you have to keep the ball down. If you don't, they'll make you pay."

Padilla in 1997 has fashioned a 3-2 mark, 3.00 ERA and thrown 42 innings in 7 starts. Opposing clubs are batting .272 against him.
