Monday, July 27th, 1998: Cooperstown League's Best Batter Named
20-year-old Peter Sweeney sent shock waves through PCBL Triple A last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the Cooperstown League Player of the Week Award.

A newcomer to the league, Sweeney made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .522 average, 12 hits in 23 at-bats, 2 home runs and 5 runs batted in.

Where the Cincinnati Samurai first baseman goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Sweeney certainly made his mark last week.

This season Sweeney is batting at a .372 clip with 7 home runs and 36 RBIs.
Monday, July 27th, 1998: Hoboken League Selects Best Performer
It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the Hoboken League, but last week Joe Black of the Santa Fe Silverbacks reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week.

Black rocked opposing pitching for a .531 average (17-32), 1 home run and 8 RBIs to come away with the award.

Thus far this year Black is batting .322 with 11 home runs, 54 RBIs and 53 runs scored.
Saturday, July 25th, 1998: 5-5 Day for Robertson
It was high-5 day at Field of the A's, at least for Tom Robertson of the Westminster Wildcats. He got a lot of high-5's from his teammates for his outstanding hitting against the Colorado Springs Desert. Robertson smashed 5 hits in 5 at-bats on his record-setting day, leading his club to a 12-2 win.

His manager said, "Tom was hitting everything. It really was a special game for him."

In the other dugout the opposing manager told BNN beat writers, "He ambushed my boys today. Obviously we didn't have much success against him, but luckily, tomorrow is another day. Hopefully it will be our day to shine."

T. Robertson singled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, doubled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and walked in a run in the 9th.

In 1998 Robertson is hitting .243, batted in 40 runs with 9 home runs and 35 runs scored.
