Wednesday, July 23rd, 1997: Delaney Hits for the Cycle by the Numbers
"To hit for the cycle" is one of the rarest of feats in a baseball game. This occurs when a player hits a single, double, triple and homerun in the same game, getting every type of hit possible.

Ralph Delaney grabbed a piece of baseball history today when he hit for the cycle. Delaney went 5 for 7 against Toronto, leading the Las Vegas Stars to a 9-8 win.

"I felt comfortable at the plate in a way I haven't felt all season," Delaney said after the game. "It was like they were throwing beach balls at me. The ball seemed that big to me. And it just floated in."

R. Delaney hit an RBI triple in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 7th, walked in the 9th, singled in the 11th, singled in the 13th and hit a solo-shot off G. Pacheco in the 16th.

In 1997 Delaney is hitting .273 with 95 hits, 6 home runs, 34 RBIs, .394 OBP and has scored 64 runs.
