At the age of 31, Edwin Austin might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Clearwater first baseman put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days collecting the Cooperstown League Player of the Week Award.
He racked up 12 hits in 27 at-bats, 3 home runs and 15 RBIs last week in 7 games.
Austin is currently batting .291 with 11 home runs and 54 RBIs. |

His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing Ken Weaver was rewarded with the Hoboken League Player of the Week honors.
The scrappy Chicago Bleacher Bums first baseman hit .393 while collecting 11 hits in 28 at-bats, 3 home runs and 11 RBIs.
This season Weaver is batting .288 with 82 RBIs, 69 runs scored and 20 home runs. |
 | Saturday, July 25th, 1998: Miami 2B Will Miss 2 Months
Cliff Hill of the Miami Knights was injured in today's game against Mount Airy and had to be helped off the field by the trainers. The initial diagnosis is a possible ruptured disc (back) and he is expected to be out for up to 2 months. It happened while Hill was colliding with a player at a base. "It hurt a lot, to be honest. I just hope it heals soon and I can get back on the field."
This season Hill is hitting at a .277 pace with 7 home runs, 40 RBIs and has scored 71 times. |
